CNC Plasma Cutting and CAD Design

What is Plasma Cutting?

Plasma cutting is done with a machine that is specifically designed to cut through electrically conductive materials with an accelerated jet of hot plasma at the material being cut. We have the capability of using two types of plasma cutters. We have a hand plasma where the cutting torch is manipulated by one of our shop techs to cut material in hard to reach places or when super precise cutting is not required. The center of our fabrication shop is our new 5x10 CNC Plasma cutter which is capable of cutting materials up to 3/4” thick. The CNC plasma cutter is fast, highly accurate and cost-effective tool for high quantity production runs, one-off prototypes and everything in between. We are the only shop in this part of our state to offer large format CNC plasma cutting.

What Types Of Projects Can Be Cut On The CNC Plasma?

We made a significant investment in the latest technology CNC plasma system on the market to be able to offer our clients highly efficient and cost effective CNC metal cutting services. We can cut anything from sheet material to bar stock. Projects that we have done for customers include custom metal signs, industrial parts, motorcycle and car parts, prototypes, construction applications, restaurants applications and more. Maybe you have an idea to create a metal sign that you wish to sell for your business or online. We can be your manufacturing source. If your business requires custom-fabricated brackets, cabinet parts, covers, holders, mounts and more, we can make those parts for your quickly and efficiently.

What Do I Need To Provide You To Get Parts Cut?

We can accept anything from a CAD (computer aided design) file to a drawing on a napkin. We have the capability to take your hand drawn product and design it in CAD to create a model that our CNC plasma can accurately and repeatedly cut. We can also take your CAD file in many different vector formats and process that file for CNC plasma production. The bottom line is that we make it easy for you to get whatever you need cut produced quickly.

Why CNC Plasma Cutting?

Can you make parts out of sheet or bar steel stock with manual cutting methods, such as with a cutoff wheel, cutting torch or manual plasma cutter? Of course you can. The choice to use a CNC plasma cutter is usually based on a few factors. Time! CNC plasma cutting is fast - up to 250 inches per minute cut speed. To put that into perspective, the average hand held Plasma cutter operator can only cut at about 30 inches per minute on thin material. The same person using a cutoff wheel might only be able to do 15-20 inches per minute. Accuracy! A CNC machine is precise. The computer controls it and that means every part is accurate (up to .005” tolerance) and large quantity of parts would be produced repeatably so you can be sure they are all exactly the same. This is next to impossible with a hand cutter or cutoff wheel. Since time is money, the cost to make given parts on a CNC versus cutting manually is significantly less.
